When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give oﬀ such hints of gladness,
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.
I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow down.
Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, “Stay awhile.”
The light flows from their branches.

Get @reshare_app • @42acresretreat “When Seth and Lara Tabatznik founded 42 Acres in Somerset, their intention was to create a regenerative retreat centre that would feed both mind and body, following the principles of ‘Soil, Soul, Society’ of friend and mentor Satish Kumar. The name 42 Acres is a light-hearted reference to ‘the answer to life, the universe and everything’ from the popular 1980s Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.In 75 actual hectares (180 acres) of the magical Selwood Forest was a 2.5-hectare (6-acre) lake. This is now a wetland teeming with life, from swallows to kingfishers and owls, thanks mainly to a family of beavers that have built dams and extended habitat across 3.25 hectares (8 acres), The retreat centre is fed from a walled garden that grows food curated for the health benefits and tastes the chefs want to add to their menu. Food miles are reduced by growing sweet ingredients like stevia and beetroot instead of using imported sugar cane; exotic lemons are replaced by lemon balm or lemon verbena. Mushrooms are grown on logs and forage plants added to hedgerows and fields.
