Her Marian’s voice..I love listening to books when I’m driving and I know lots of gardeners who like listening to audiobooks while gardening.I’ve had several lovely emails and dms asking when The Kindest Garden would be available on audible platforms too, so here’s the beginning of making that happen… Harder to talk aloud for three days than I expected..Huge thanks to @mars__west composer, choir leader and sound engineering wizard @idaudio and best company to have in a sound proof bubble.None of this possible without @alicefagraham editor of dreams who has consistently championed this book ~ which is neither solely a practical regenerative gardening manual nor a self-grounding spiritual guide, but dances between in the liminal space where magic is possible.The Kindest Garden is in @the_rhs Top Ten books for Christmas too, so if you are stuck for a gift.. 🎁Photos of Dede 🐾 by the lovely @xantheelbrickphotography 🙏@franceslincolnpub

Do you love dahlias? If so..Some stunning new cultivars are incoming.Sarah Raven first added them to her must have list not only for their stunning late season colours, but because they give so very many flowers per plant. The ultimate cut and come again.I had a delicious day learning about her breeding programme and the new ones she and Josie have planned for next year. Plus a bouquet demo using a hydrangea for base structure. Genius.Perch Hill is still jam packed with vibrant colour and movement in every corner. The exuberance was exhilarating!A delicious flowery lunch with dahlia petals and my favourite basil ice cream, and great company with @tamsinwesthorpe @wrenandthewild @sophiee_king_ @izzy_manuel

When collaborations become friendships..My latest @marianboswallstudio newsletter just dropped, sharing some favourite artists and makers in the world of wood.Here’s a taster ~ I went to check out the beautiful furniture crafted by the lovely @sebastiancoxltd for our project @domaineevremond, itself another collaboration between old friends in England and France. Creating delicious sparkling wine with @champagnetaittinger from grapes grown here in Kent.The furniture from local wood sits beautifully on the terraces and I stopped to talk about collecting wildflower seeds before settling in to enjoy the bubbles and the view.See the @domaineevremond website for tours of the 8 hectare biodiversity site and vineyards and. tastings. Next weekend ~ on Saturday 20th Sept ~ I did spot mention of local oysters on the terrace..@visitkent

Being the change.. such an inspiring evening with @earth__farmer and @claire_hannington_williams at @lowerhewood.A tour of the land with Tim explaining all that they’ve done in an action packed 15 months since being invited onto the farm by artist @alexadeferranti . Tim shared his deep knowledge of the soil biology, minerals and how he and Claire work to regenerate land to grow nutrient dense food through cover crops, livestock (hens) and some fascinating fermentations.Then into the greenhouse for an incredible feast of the freshest most delicious food. My neighbour had to pause in silence for a while after his first taste of the tomato tea. He told us he was having a ‘culinary experience ’!The food was exceptional and only helped by the conviviality of strangers forming a community with the shared simple hope of making the world a better place.Tim and Claire run a local veg box scheme, and host events sharing and teaching both professional growers and hosting school children. So many notes were being scribbled, I know everyone left hugely inspired.Tim consults for farmers and growers and is a fellow @integrity_soils agroecology coach. There’s not much he doesn’t know about soil and cows!Could this be the future of food? I hope so.#regenerativedesign #createalumni

Need a little zing?Dianthus carthusianorum and Bupleurum falcatum ~ grown from seed and then self sown along the edges of an old tarmac path which we took a pick axe to in places about ten years ago to allow just this.The bupleurum is biennial but appears regularly and is such a delicate character for a dry garden. Also looks great with allium sphaerocephalon a bit later.
