If all you need to be happy is a garden and some books.. why not add in lots of friends, fabulous food and a chance to talk about soil soul and society?!It was a total joy to give a talk on the Kindest Garden at Kenfield House, kindly hosted by some very favourite people I started working with over thirteen years ago. Thank you for buying books ~ All proceeds went to @nationalgardenschemekent who raise money for some great causes including @macmillancancer and @horatiosgarden. Thank you @nicolajdd and NGS team!What an amazing group of farmers, growers, CIC founders and funders, artists and architects, old friends and yoga teachers gathered to swap ideas and create community. Thank you @thesecretbreath for giving up your yoga barn and for being just the best hosts, clients and fun friends.Here’s to the incredible Kent community, and the naissant @chalktocoast!Gorgeous swing from @theoakandropecompany says “plant your love and let it grow”.Garden managed by @flowerladyali 🙌

Thirteen years on.. and opening for the NGS charity for the first time, gorgeous Kenfield House will raise funds for great causes through @nationalgardenschemekent“In an AONB, this lovely 3½ acre garden has many areas varying from a white garden and a wild garden with an orchard and unusual trees, to a spiral lawn. There are several flowering borders of perennials and shrubs and wild flowers abound in several unmown areas. The influence of Marian Boswall can be seen in the design and planting plan from when she recreated this garden in 2012.”Booking in advance recommended via the NGS website. Open 24th and 25th May.#ngs

Posted @withregram • @42acresretreat When Marian Boswall visits us at 42 acres the land always seems to answer. Nobody has seen the beavers on the lake so intimately and reliably and the gardens seem to shine with a sense of purpose when she walks through.
Her new book ‘The Kindest Garden’ is a guide to help us work towards feeling for a landscape as Marian does. This work and the book before it ‘Sustainable Garden’ has been so useful to the 42 acres garden team helping them to consider garden materials and their environmental impact; the life in our soils; garden habitat for diverse fauna and flora; the value of water as resource and magnet for life; and resilient planting for an unpredictable future. Marian also shows how examples of large scale regenerative projects and their approaches can be applied to the garden setting.‘The Kindest Garden’ though has really struck a chord and resonated as the human element in nature and the garden has been beautifully explored. It has been a chance to reflect on how our approach towards a garden and the nature within it can tell us a lot about the people we are. Thank you! It’s a great honour to be included in this roll call of House and Garden top garden designers.With lots of friends, collaborators and many lovely people in here working their socks off to co create a deeper beauty.I never take it for granted that I get to do this as a day job, to work with some wonderful land stewards and owners, and my super dedicated and creative team @marianboswallstudio, to dream up happy places to be built by our fabulous contractors and filled with plants from favourite nurseries., stone from local quarries., wildlife friendly lighting and a bunch of electrical, watery and structural and technical gubbins often hidden to make it all work.So not just me.  - Paul Klee If you practise yoga, (not necessarily in a gym or in lycra) do you use Drishti?It means vision, a point of view, or intelligence and wisdom. The use of drishti in yoga (gazing at a fixed point) is also a metaphor for focusing consciousness toward a vision of oneness. Drishti helps our sense of perception recognise and overcome the limits of “normal” vision.Our eyes can only see objects in front of us that reflect the visible spectrum of light, but by focussing on the horizon or a certain spot, we try to view an inner reality not normally visible.We might become aware of how our mind can limit what we see—a projection of our own limited ideas.Often our opinions, prejudices, and habits prevent us from seeing unity. Drishti is a technique for looking for the Divine everywhere— removing the obstacles that obscure this true vision, a technique that allows us to see the oneness of everything.Of course it’s not the only way to get there.. you may have others?#drishti

I’m a huge fan of the NGS which raises so much money for great causes by encouraging beautiful private gardens to open for visitors. So it’s very exciting that
@theoldrectorygarden is opening for the first time this coming week. Originally designed by @arnemaynardgardendesign and now excellently curated by @gregbarkeruk and head gardener @sharneegates entry is by advanced tickets only, from @ngseastsussex. Parking at the church.Whilst there’s sure to be tea and cake I only hope this becomes a tradition that in time will include some of @mrgeorgeprassas legendary cooking, and that a cookbook follows…

When I was five and we lived in Scotland I got stuck on sheet ice with my skis wrapped around a barbed wire fence above a deep burn. My father saw what had happened and side stepped all the way up the hill, untangled me and got me down.When I was twelve and we lived in Naples I got the mast of my little sailing dinghy caught in the ropes tied between a tug boat and a war ship. The sea was full of jelly fish and I was afraid. My father saw what had happened and dived straight off the jetty and swam the 100 odd metres to sort me out.In my twenties he rescued me from the top of a hill fort where I’d got my car stuck at midnight and he drove to Oxford at dawn to rescue me another time. There were others..Always fit and always adventurous he was also quite good at getting us stuck, and I have walked out of many an off piste foray with him that didn’t quite end up at the location or altitude we needed to get home going downhill only. And that was before we had skins.Duty bound and deeply honourable, he loved to party and to laugh and was always organising something, but wore his many chairmanships so lightly I didn’t even know about some of them, until yesterday when my son told us in his Tribute. A full church, flowers by friends, lots of local, many far flung and many many Royal Marine friends.At the end of his life he wanted nothing more than to meet his God. He is survived by my mother, his wife of 67 years.Thank you, to so many friends and to
@rmbandservice @thermcharity for being there yesterday and over the past few months.
