Midwintering.Our Studio Christmas celebration was a deeply nourishing day with the wonderful Michael Wachter, making foraged medicines, sharing stories, pot luck gifts of food and drink and trying new pickles and some unusual and downright curious tastes ~ full of spirit and gut gifting properties.Michael trained as a landscape architect originally, learnt to forage when stranded on a desert island (I kid you not!) and is an ethnobotanist, men’s breathwork coach and deeply beautiful human being, as well as a senior gardener at @greatdixterofficialWe are so lucky to be close by, and this was a perfect way for us as a team to celebrate all the things we love about living in connection with the land.🙏 @humankeystone.uk

When you let go of fear..Coming up to the solstice and reflecting on a year of morning walks and sunrise thoughts. This song sung by the wonderful @seth_tabatznik is a bit of a mantra I often remind myself of when wondering what I should do…Seth is cofounder of @betheearth.foundation and @42acresretreat and I feel that you can hear in the song that he is one who has walked the path he sings us along, and it is richer for that.Have a lovely week.

Garden Book of the Year 2025 🎶
I really didn’t expect this!I wrote The Kindest Garden because it was the book I wished I’d had by my side as a grower and designer over the last 25 years. I wanted to share my approach and the knowledge I’ve gathered with the many brilliant growers designers and land stewards who are working so hard to make a difference right now.I am beyond thrilled that it has resonated with so many people and that the @gdnmediaguild judges ~ who are all top of their own fields in writing editing and publishing ~ found it a worthy winner in a very strong year for good garden books.I love the cover and @jasoningram’s photos are stunning ~ this was my second collaboration with friend and guide @jasoningram who always makes it a joy to photograph soil microbes at sunrise!Big thanks to @alicefagraham who believed in the book from the beginning and increased its size twice to fit in more information! Thanks to Glenn Howard designer and the whole the team @franceslincolnpub part of @quartobooksuk.Thanks to my team @marianboswallstudio who drew up axos and diagrams, masterplans and planting plans and researched and crunched numbers for things like environmental product declarations, water calculators etc and proofread many times!And thanks to my dear friend @aritanderson who took the video of wonderful @errolreubenfernandes reading the judges feedback just before she received the well deserved Outstanding Contribution Award.Thank you @stihlgb for sponsoring the award and @xantheelbrickphotography for the portrait of the writer with her dog.. 🐾If you’ve read this far I am happy to sign dedications and send as stickers to insert into any Christmas gift copies, so dm me if you’d like one. Her Marian’s voice..I love listening to books when I’m driving and I know lots of gardeners who like listening to audiobooks while gardening.I’ve had several lovely emails and dms asking when The Kindest Garden would be available on audible platforms too, so here’s the beginning of making that happen… Harder to talk aloud for three days than I expected..Huge thanks to @mars__west composer, choir leader and sound engineering wizard @idaudio and best company to have in a sound proof bubble.None of this possible without @alicefagraham editor of dreams who has consistently championed this book ~ which is neither solely a practical regenerative gardening manual nor a self-grounding spiritual guide, but dances between in the liminal space where magic is possible.The Kindest Garden is in @the_rhs Top Ten books for Christmas too, so if you are stuck for a gift.. 🎁Photos of Dede 🐾 by the lovely @xantheelbrickphotography 🙏@franceslincolnpub

Do you love dahlias? If so..Some stunning new cultivars are incoming.Sarah Raven first added them to her must have list not only for their stunning late season colours, but because they give so very many flowers per plant. The ultimate cut and come again.I had a delicious day learning about her breeding programme and the new ones she and Josie have planned for next year. Plus a bouquet demo using a hydrangea for base structure. Genius.Perch Hill is still jam packed with vibrant colour and movement in every corner. The exuberance was exhilarating!A delicious flowery lunch with dahlia petals and my favourite basil ice cream, and great company with @tamsinwesthorpe @wrenandthewild @sophiee_king_ @izzy_manuel
