THE BLACKTHORN TRUST

A Community Physic Garden at the Blackthorn Trust which will provide a beautiful reflective space for healing and recovery. It will transform the entrance to the site and will include a visitor’s centre, as well as raised beds and wide paths to provide outdoor workshops for people with reduced mobility.

The plants have been chosen for their therapeutic values, textures, scents and shapes. The planting will create a restful healing environment to sit quietly and enjoy the surroundings or gather as a group to chat, learn or make music together. Slate boards will display some of Rudolf Steiner’s anthroposophical inspirational quotations and explain the planting. The wood from the trees will be used to build benches and raised planters for wheelchair access.

We hope to bring beautiful therapeutic light panels into the garden and are looking for funding to make this dream a reality. The plants will attract bees and butterflies and the trees will be full of blossom in spring and fruit in the autumn to attract birds. We hope the space will be used by the whole community and the Blackthorn Trust will be working with other local groups that would benefit from using the garden.
